By exploring the media portrayal of current events in Israel and the Middle East, this session demonstrates how nuanced reporting can change news to editorial, and how readers and viewers can distinguish between fact and opinion.
The course can be modified for middle school, high school, and adult learners.
News from Israel can be found in the media on an almost daily basis. North American students are often confused by news coming from the Middle East due to a lack of understanding of life in the Middle East in general, and life in Israel in particular. Through a review and discussion of Israeli current events, complete with analysis of online media clips and newspaper articles, students will develop an ability to critically analyze the news from Israel and the Middle East.
